Cypress Makes USB 2.0 Available for $1.00
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 2003--
EZ-USB(R) TX2(TM) Transceiver Enables Design Flexibility and Fast
Time-to-Market; Assists ASIC Integration in High-Speed Imaging and
Video Applications
Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:CY) -- the industry leader
in USB -- today announced the availability of EZ-USB(R) TX2(TM)
(CY7C68000) for $1.00 in volumes of 100,000 units.
EZ-USB TX2 is a stand-alone high-speed USB 2.0 transceiver that is
compliant with the USB 2.0 Transceiver Macrocell Interface (UTMI)
specification. This device includes an 8- or 16-bit interface for
applications such as scanners, printers, digital camcorders, and
digital still cameras. For designers who are well along their
integration curve and want only the transceiver to be external to
their ASIC, the TX2 provides a hi-speed physical layer interface that
operates at the maximum allowable USB 2.0 bandwidth.
"Customers are designing USB 2.0 into very cost-sensitive
applications," said Cathal Phelan, vice president of Cypress's
Personal Communications Division, "With the broadest portfolio of USB
products in the industry, Cypress continues to design and manufacture
products that will make using USB 2.0 a very simple decision."
"Time-to-market and cost are the primary concerns for the USB
market," said Trevor Davis, product marketing manager for Cypress's
Personal Communications Division. "By offering the TX2 for $1.00,
Cypress is showing designers that they can design USB 2.0 into just
about any application and still satisfy their end-market demands for
high speed and low price."
The CY7C68000 has successfully passed the full suite of compliance
tests set by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF). This device has been
added to the USB-IF Integrators List, signifying to USB developers
that it has met the strict specifications for USB 2.0 devices, further
adding to Cypress's USB-IF certified family of products.
USB 2.0 and ASIC Integration
Cypress has a broad USB product portfolio that satisfies the needs
of customers who are at different levels of USB integration in their
systems:
|
-- | EZ-USB(R) FX2(TM) Customers wanting a complete USB 2.0
solution should look to the EZ-USB FX2. It is a
microcontroller-based high-speed USB device providing USB 2.0
support with an integrated transceiver, serial interface
engine (SIE), 8051 microcontroller, memory and programmable
I/O interface. This is a completely integrated USB 2.0
solution that utilizes the full bandwidth capabilities of USB
2.0.
|
-- | EZ-USB(R) SX2(TM) Customers doing next-generation design may
choose to integrate the microcontroller into their design. The
EZ-USB SX2 is a high-performance, yet extremely cost-effective
solution that integrates a USB 2.0 transceiver, an
"intelligent" SIE, a 4Kbyte FIFO, a high-speed PLL, four
highly configurable endpoints, and a very simple local bus
interface.
|
-- | EZ-USB(R) TX2(TM) For customers who want only the transceiver
to be external to their ASIC, the EZ-USB TX2 provides a
low-cost, hi-speed physical-layer interface. This enables the
system designer to keep the complex hi-speed analog USB
components external to the digital ASIC, thereby decreasing
development time and associated risk.
